Weekly trailer roundup 07/11

The biggest, most exciting new movie and TV trailers this week.

We live in a golden age of entertainment, with great new movies and TV shows being released all the time. There’s so much, in fact, that it can be hard to keep track of what’s coming, and what to get excited about.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of the biggest and best trailers released this week. And there’s a few bangers this week, featuring everything from spooks to slashers to spacebound children.

Movies

Presence

In cinemas 24th January

Prolific filmmaker Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s Eleven) returns with a haunted house thriller with a killer hook - the entire thing is shot from the ghost’s perspective.

It might sound a little gimmicky, but in Soderbergh’s assured hands this should be a fascinating watch. Plus it stars Lucy Liu (Kill Bill Vol. 1) and was written by David Koepp, who’s brought us some absolute bangers in the past including Mission: ImpossiblePanic RoomSpider-Man and Jurassic Park.

And the 2017 version of The Mummy, but we won’t hold that against him.

Heart Eyes

In cinemas 7th February

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this is a romantic comedy with a slasher twist. Two co-workers are mistaken for a couple and hunted by the infamous Heart Eyes Killer - but the night’s traumatic events may just bring them together.

From writer/producer Christopher Landon (Happy Death DayFreaky) and director Josh Ruben (Werewolves Within), this has the potential to be a hilariously horrifying time at the movies. Perfect for date night.

The End

In cinemas 6th December

An apocalyptic musical starring Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer) and Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water)? Yes, this movie is real.

This follows a wealthy, dysfunctional family who have survived the end of the world in a bunker and must now learn to live together in close quarters. It promises a ‘poignant and deeply human’ story, with plenty of original songs.

Also stars George MacKay (1917) and Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit).

TV Shows

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Season 1 on Disney+ 3rd November

Hoping to breathe some fresh life into the blockbuster sci-fi franchise, Skeleton Crew is a fun, kid-centric adventure story with some distinctly ‘80s Amblin vibes.

Channelling nostalgic favourites like The Goonies and Flight of the Navigator, this follows a bunch of misfits kids who uncover an old spaceship and end up accidentally flinging themselves across the galaxy. Lost and alone, they must work with the roguish Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) to find their way home.

With all of its practical effects and endearing creature design - just look at Neel, the adorable little blue elephant guy - this looks like a lot of fun. Plus it’s brought to us by Jon Watts, the man behind the most recent Spider-Man trilogy, all of which were excellent.

Lots to be excited about here, even if you’re feeling burnt out on all things Star Wars.

Squid Game

Season 2 on Netflix 26th December

The mega-popular Korean thriller series returns with a highly-anticipated second season. In case you missed it the first time around (did anyone not watch Squid Game?) the series revolves around an underground contest where hundreds of financially hard-up people play a series of deadly children’s games for a huge cash prize.

Season 2 promises more of the same, with some new games added into the mix and a plot by surviving players to get revenge and end the game for good.
