Weekly trailer roundup 09/01
The biggest, most exciting new movie and TV trailers this week.
We live in a golden age of entertainment, with great new movies and TV shows being released all the time. There’s so much, in fact, that it can be hard to keep track of what’s coming, and what to get excited about.
With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of the biggest and best trailers released this week. And while it’s been a bit quiet on the trailer front since Christmas, there’s still some pretty exciting stuff out there, featuring everything from masked killers to hulking heroes and… sheep farmers?
Movies
Companion

In cinemas 31st January
From the studio that brought you The Notebook… and the creators of Barbarian. So says the marketing for this twisty, unpredictable thriller, and to their credit it pretty much nails the off-kilter tone in this trailer.
A violent, darkly funny romantic horror? About a love robot that takes matters into its own mechanical hands? Sign us up!
Stars Jack Quaid (The Boys) and Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets).
Heart Eyes

In cinemas 7th February
Speaking of romantic horror…
Filmmaker Christopher Landon has had great success in recent years with his high concept slasher mash-ups (slash-ups?), like Happy Death Day (what if a slasher but Groundhog Day) and Freaky (what if a slasher but Freaky Friday). Now he brings us quite possibly the first slasher romantic comedy - just in time for Valentine’s Day!
This fun-looking movie follows a young couple on their first date as they’re menaced by the vicious Heart Eyes Killer. Will the experience bring them closer together? Only if they survive…
Bring Them Down

In cinemas 7th February
A dark, tense thriller about… sheep farming? If anyone can make such a thing work it’s surely Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) and Christopher Abbott (Wolf Man).
This charts the dramatically escalating events that follow a bout of sheep rustling, pitting two rival farms against each other. And by the looks of things, there will be blood.
TV Shows
The Last of Us

Season 2 on Sky Atlantic in April
Based on the acclaimed video game series, HBO’s equally-acclaimed post-apocalyptic drama finally returns for a second season this spring - and things are going to get emotional.
The first game (and first season, which followed it very closely) wasn’t exactly all sunshine and rainbows, and the follow-up, The Last of Us Part II, took things to a much darker, more violent, more morally complex place. All indications are that season 2 will do the same.
Bring the hankies. And your best makeshift zombie-killing weapon.
Reacher

Season 3 on Prime Video from 20th February
Jack is back! The hulking, improbably competent crusader for justice returns next month for another explosive adventure, this time based on the seventh of Lee Child’s Reacher novels, Persuader.
Expect more bone-crunching fights, witty one-liners and bad guys somehow underestimating the gigantic, muscular hero. Plus, as this trailer heavily teases, this time Reacher will be up against a villainous henchman even bigger and stronger than he is.
Bring it on.
