We live in a golden age of entertainment, with great new movies and TV shows being released all the time. There’s so much, in fact, that it can be hard to keep track of what’s coming, and what to get excited about.
With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of the biggest and best trailers released this week. And there’s some absolute bangers to look forward to, featuring everything from superspies to lightcycles and slapstick cops.
Movies
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning

In cinemas 23rd May
Will this be Tom Cruise’s last mission? The creators of the Mission: Impossible franchise have been quiet on the subject, but rumours are swirling and this latest trailer definitely leans into the idea.
There are dozens of callbacks - and actual clips - from previous Mission movies, lines like ‘one last time’ and a noticeably sombre tone, all of which points to superspy Ethan Hunt perhaps making the ultimate sacrifice to save the world.
Plot-wise, this follows on directly from 2023’s Dead Reckoning Part 1 (this was originally titled Dead Reckoning Part 2 until the studio got cold feet), pitting Hunt and co. against a rogue AI bent on destroying the world.
But really it’s all about the stunts, and this time Tom Cruise finds himself dangling from the wing of a biplane as it zooms through the mountains. Wild stuff.
Tron: Ares

In cinemas 10th October
Remember Tron? It’s back, in blockbuster form.
The 1982 cult classic, about sentient computer programs living in a virtual world, already got a sequel in the often-forgotten Tron: Legacy, way back in 2010, but now Disney are giving it another go.
This time a program called, you guessed it, Ares (Jared Leto), manages to make its way into the real world. And the resulting chaos looks… actually pretty cool?
The killer soundtrack definitely helps. Legacy had Daft Punk on composing duties, and this time they’ve managed to snag Nine Inch Nails, which should be worth the ticket price alone.
The Naked Gun

In cinemas 1st August
Well this is a surprise. Not only is the long-talked-about, Liam Neeson-starring Naked Gun reboot actually happening, but it’s actually a sequel! And there’s a trailer!
Neeson stars as supercop Frank Drebin (Jr) in a spoof remake that keeps the silly jokes while going heavier on the action. At least, if this short teaser is anything to go by.
Here’s hoping it lives up to the original, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest comedies of all time.
The Phoenician Scheme

In cinemas 30th May
As you can probably tell from the opening frame, this is the new Wes Anderson film - and it’s everything fans of the idiosyncratic auteur have come to expect. There are symmetrical wide shots, actors stood around like action figures and intricate, dollhouse-like sets.
It’s also got the director’s trademark charm and humour, in a story about a wealthy businessman attempting to pass on his ventures to his estranged daughter.
Not to mention, of course, an absolutely stellar cast of Anderson regulars, including Benicio Del Toro and Scarlett Johansson, plus a few newcomers like Michael Cera and Richard Ayoade.
Predator: Killer of Killers

On Disney+ 6th June
Director Dan Trachtenberg, the man behind 2022’s excellent Prey and the upcoming Predator: Badlands, brings us another delicious morsel of violent alien action.
Just like Prey, Killer of Killers pits the alien hunters against history’s greatest warriors - this time in an animated anthology, touching on conflicts in viking-era Norway, feudal Japan and World War 2. And it looks incredible.
If nothing else, it’s enough to satisfy our appetite for more Predator carnage before Badlands comes out later this year.
Superman

In cinemas 11th July
This is less a trailer, more a four-minute-long scene with a teaser tacked onto the end, but we’re so excited about James Gunn’s new take on the Man of Steel (and the DC Universe in general) that we’re counting it.
This scene expands the clips we’ve already seen of Supes crash landing in the Arctic, beaten and bloodied by some mystery assailant, and calling on adorable super-pup Krypto to help him out.
New here are glimpses of a stunning take on the Fortress of Solitude, a group of Kelex robots, and some hilarious shenanigans from Krypto himself. July can’t get here fast enough.
TV Shows
Murderbot

Season 1 on Apple TV+ from 16th May
Based on the book series The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, this sci-fi comedy series follows a security droid who becomes self-aware, and struggles to connect socially with the humans he’s been assigned to protect.
This looks like a funny, charming show, with a great lead performance by Alexander Skarsgård and a streak of keenly observed satire running through it. Here’s hoping it’s another jewel in the Apple TV crown - a streamer that’s quickly becoming the home of excellent sci-fi television.
