2024/25 FA Cup draw review: Fourth round matchups
The details on the 2024/25 FA Cup fourth round draw.
The 2024/25 FA Cup campaign is truly underway now. The third round saw the inclusion of the top flight sides and it provided action and magic like the cup so often does.
Up next is the fourth round and despite a few more games left to play in the third round, we know the matchups for the coming stage. Find out those fixtures here plus details on how the previous round went.
2024/25 FA Cup third round results
The third round introduced the teams from the top two divisions of English football, the Premier League and the Championship, making things a lot more interesting with potential giant killings on the cards.
Unfortunately, this year no such surprise slayings occurred outside of Brentford’s loss to struggling Championship side Plymouth, although now free from the rule of Wayne Rooney, the southern side are likely to see a good upturn in results.
Tottenham were made to fight for their place in the next round by non-league Tamworth, who fought valiantly and actually had their own share of chances to take the tie before falling to their far superior opponents. Major props to them though for taking it all the way to extra time and keeping Spurs goalless for 100 minutes.
Most other Prem sides made lightwork of their inferior opponents. Manchester City’s poor form in all other competitions didn’t carry over as they dispatched of local opponents Salford 8-0.
Liverpool and Brighton both won their ties comfortably, scoring four each. Fulham beat fellow London side Watford 4-1, Leicester put six past QPR (although did concede two as well), and Chelsea put five unanswered past Morecambe. Even struggling Southampton had an easy day at St Mary’s, beating Swansea 3-0.
There were two all-Prem matchups during the round and both were exciting affairs as expected. The first saw Aston Villa come from behind at home to beat West Ham 2-1.
The second was undeniably the highlight of the round as Arsenal and Manchester United, the competitions two most successful teams, played out a 120 minute thriller in which the defending champions United, despite being a man down since the 61st minute, managed to triumph on penalties.

The fourth round draw took place at the conclusion of the Arsenal vs Manchester United matchup, which was originally going to be at 5pm on Sunday 12th January but followed immediately on after the game went longer than scheduled due to extra time and penalties needed.

Everton, now reunited with David Moyes, will look at their home tie against Bournemouth as a good chance to show their intent of improvement in the near future, with their takeover now complete and their new owners setting their sights on regaining the clubs’ once solid reputation.
Liverpool will have to be cautious of Plymouth, particularly given that they will be entering Argyle’s home, although with the way Arne Slot’s side are capable of playing they shouldn’t really have too many problems there.
Newcastle escaped an early scare in their third round victory over League Two side Bromley, but they’ll want to avoid something like that against a somewhat more formidable opponent in League One flyers Birmingham.
