What is Sky Full Fibre 75?: Sky Full Fibre 75 costs, packages & info

Sky’s entry-level full fibre offering.

What is Sky Full Fibre 75?

Sky Full Fibre 75 is the company’s entry-level full-fibre offering, which is to say that it provides the lowest superfast speeds available on an FTTP connection while remaining reliable for your needs.

Sky offers its broadband via the Openreach network, which is the UK’s most widely used and available network.

How fast is Sky Full Fibre 75?

Sky Full Fibre 75 offers average download speeds of 76Mbps and average upload speeds of 19Mbps.

These speeds are ideal for smaller households with moderate broadband usage. You’d be able to stream videos and Sky TV in 4K, play games online with minimal lag, quickly browse the internet, and work from home with little to no problems.

It should be said, though, that it may not be fully capable of handling all those actions at the same time. Each will take up a certain amount of bandwidth so the more you’re doing at once or the more devices connected and active at one time will slow down the speeds.

The average download and upload speeds listed are also theoretical/advertised speeds. You may not get those exact speeds when you get it installed, although you will be told the speeds you should expect to receive when it is set, either by the installing engineer or during your agreement (if your household already has an Openreach FTTP connection).

You’ll also be glad to know of the Sky Speed Guarantee, which will ensure you get what you are paying for (more on that later).

Is Sky Full Fibre 75 FTTP only?

Yes, Sky Full Fibre 75 is available only as an FTTP connection, which means you will receive full fibre from this package.

FTTP stands for Fibre to the Premises but can also be known as FTTH, or Fibre to the House. It differs from an FTTC, or Fibre to the Cabinet, connection because of the cables that run from the telephone exchange to your household.

With an FTTC connection, a fibre optic cable is run from the exchange to a green roadside cabinet (you will have seen them and maybe wondered what they are. Now you know), then from the cabinet a copper cable is run to your home.

The problem with copper cables is they throttle the speeds - the don’t carry data as well as fibre optic cables, so they slow down the connection and can’t carry as much across. They also aren’t as reliable.

FTTP sees fibre optic cables used throughout, running from the exchange to the cabinet, then once again from the cabinet to your home, ensuring the fastest and most reliable data transfer possible.

Where is Sky Full Fibre 75 available?

Unlike standard fibre (FTTC), full fibre is not yet widely available in the UK. As opposed to the 98% availability of FTTC, Sky states that their full fibre is available to around 51% of UK homes.

Full Fibre is currently being rolled out across the UK, with Openreach stating its ambitious goal of providing an FTTP connection to 80% of UK homes and premises by 2026.

Is Sky Full Fibre 75 any good?

Sky Full Fibre 75, like all Sky Full Fibre packages, is very good when it comes to your needs. By using Openreach’s network, you can be assured that you are receiving a strong and reliable connection.

What Sky adds on top of that is some brilliant inclusions that will ensure you don’t regret choosing them as your provider.

However, as mentioned earlier, Sky Full Fibre 75 is only really good for smaller households with moderate broadband usage.

If you have many people in your household or multiple devices that require and active connection plus heavy usage at peak times, this may not be the option for you. Instead, you should opt for one of their stronger packages, such as Sky Full Fibre 500

What is included with Sky Full Fibre 75?

There are a couple of reasons that make Sky a good broadband provider, with regular deals on its packages and guarantees that ensure you get what you are paying for.

Plus, all Sky Broadband packages come with unlimited usage, so you'll never have to worry about overusing your allowance each month because you won't have one!

  • Sky Broadband Shield is a free tool you can utilise to set parental controls as well as protect against dangerous websites.
  • Sky Broadband Boost is a separate hub that you can have set up somewhere else in the house that can help boost the signal to the rooms which otherwise couldn’t get it as strongly as others.
  • Sky WiFi Max is essentially an upgrade on Sky Broadband Boost, providing a separate hub to be placed elsewhere in your home to boost the broadband.
  • Wall-to-Wall Guarantee ensures that every room in your home receives at least 3Mbps, otherwise, you get you money back (available for free if you don’t have Sky Broadband Boost or Sky WiFi Max).
  • Speed Guarantee is a promise from Sky that your broadband won’t drop below the minimum speed that is told to you when your broadband is installed. Should you find that your speeds drop below the minimum speed guarantee for three days in a row, you’ll be entitled to claim one month’s fees back.
