Weekly trailer roundup 05/12
The biggest, most exciting new movie and TV trailers this week.
We live in a golden age of entertainment, with great new movies and TV shows being released all the time. There’s so much, in fact, that it can be hard to keep track of what’s coming, and what to get excited about.
With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of the biggest and best trailers released this week. And while it’s been a bit of a light week, there are still a couple of bangers that should be on your radar, featuring everything from fairy tale princesses to grizzled doctors and rambunctious aliens.
Movies
Snow White

In cinemas 21st March
The first of TWO Disney live-action remake trailers released in as many weeks (see that blue furry thing below), this gives us our first proper look at the highly-anticipated reimagining of the classic that started it all - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Starring Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) as the kind-hearted princess and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) as her vain and wicked stepmother, this certainly has some star-power behind it. But honestly, the less said about those mildly terrifying dwarfs, the better.
Lilo & Stitch

In cinemas 23rd May
And here’s the second, this time a live-action remake of the wonderfully anarchic 2002 Disney classic, Lilo & Stitch. This one is much more of a teaser, but it still manages to brilliantly capture the tone of the original film, with escaped alien experiment Stitch rampaging through a sandcastle version of the famous Disney castle like some monstrous kaiju.
Plot details are still under wraps, but it’s safe to assume the new version will follow the original pretty closely, telling the story of the bond that forms between Stitch and a lonely Hawaiian girl named Lilo (played here by newcomer Maia Kealoha).
Also stars Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) and Tia Carrere (Wayne’s World).
Elio

In cinemas 13th June
Wow, it really is Disney week, isn’t it?
The latest offering from beloved studio Pixar follows an oddball kid named - you guessed it - Elio, who is obsessed with the idea of extraterrestrial life. When he’s mistaken for the leader of Earth and taken into space, a comic misadventure ensues - a journey that will, in classic Pixar style, teach him who he’s meant to be.
This looks sweet and heartfelt, and the design of the aliens and their ship is just as visually sumptuous as you’d expect from Pixar’s animators.
The Salt Path

In cinemas 2025
Based on the bestselling book by Raynor Winn, this extraordinary true story follows a couple who, facing ill-health and eviction from their home, decide to pack up and walk the 630-mile South West Coast Path.
This looks like an inspiring, life-affirming film, all about resilience and the undeniable power of just getting outside and going for a walk in nature. And speaking of nature, those shots of the Cornish landscape look absolutely spectacular.
Stars Gillian Anderson (Sex Education) and Jason Isaacs (the Harry Potter series).
TV Shows
American Primeval

Season 1 on Netflix 9th January
A stark limited series about the initial expansion into the Western United States, and the violent struggle that ensued to gain control of these new territories. Betty Gilpin (GLOW) plays a woman trying to find safety and a new life for her and her daughter.
This looks like it’ll be tackling some big questions, like the nature of violence and the dark side of religion. Not a light watch, then. But at least there should be plenty of gunfights to break things up a bit.
The Pitt

Season 1 on Sky Atlantic January 2025
Fans of classic ‘90s medical drama ER rejoice! HBO’s new series The Pitt is a sequel show in all but name, following young trainee doctors in a chaotic inner city emergency room. It even has ER star Noah Wyle, now a grizzled veteran doctor charged with training the next generation.
The show also introduces an interesting stylistic wrinkle, borrowed from 24, another legendary network thriller - the whole thing takes place in real time, over the course of one marathon 15-hour shift. Exciting stuff!
Dexter: Original Sin

Season 1 on Paramount+ 13th December
The serial killer with a code returns this Christmas in a brand new prequel series, following a young, fresh-faced Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson) as he joins the police force and sets out to curb his dark urges via vigilante justice.
A prequel might not be entirely necessary but it’s nice to see Dexter taken back to basics, and some of that casting is eerily spot-on - looking at you Batista (James Martinez). Also stars Christian Slater (Mr Robot), Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) and, the legend herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
